The Project Aware Mentoring Program (PAMP) is designed to pair caring adults with young people who need support, reinforcement, counsel, and friendship. PAMP offers young people the opportunity to develop relationships with caring adults other than parents or teachers. Through this relationship mentors can eventually become friends, role models and advocates.
Mentoring can:
- Improve a child's self esteem
- Help improve academic skills
- Lead young people to resources they may not find on their own
- Provide support for new behaviors, attitudes and ambitions
- Enhance parenting skills
PAMP participants are split into two groups. PAMP I serves children in grades 4 through 8 while PAMP II serves children in grades K through 3 and grades 9 through 12. Currently we have over 100 mentor/mentee matches in our PAMP I and PAMP II programs.
PAMP mentors spend a minimum of two hours a week with their mentees participating in activities that are as varied as the likes and dislikes of the participants. In addition to financing these individual activities, FII, once a month, organizes and finances a group activity (a trip to a museum, a bar-b-que, a trip to the movies) for all PAMP participants.
